FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does coaching work?

Coaching is a relationship focused on your well being. Irrespective of where you are in your life, you will have noticed that the life you want does not happen by chance. If you are serious about making some changes to enjoy a better life, you must be prepared to take action. Coaching will help to stretch and challenge you, but much like working with a personal trainer, the outcome will depend on you. As your coach I will work with you to uncover the goals, obstacles and solutions that are standing between you and fulfillment. This is achieved through the use of effective questioning, exercises and tools specifically adjusted to help you reach your goals.

How are the sessions structured?

Sessions are conducted either face to face, via phone or Skype depending on the nature of the coaching (Personal, Corporate, Youth or Parent). Each session lasts between 45-60 minutes with the exception of Corporate sessions which are 90 minutes. The quantity of sessions is determined in advance based on what you’d like to achieve and by when; though the general rule of thumb is a 6 session program. Sessions are spaced out at 2-3 week intervals and each session follows a similar pattern: we review the previous action plan (so we can review what is and isn’t working), establish a clear goal and take away from the session, determine exactly where you are in relation to that goal (what you have at your disposal and what more you will need) then create a plan you can put in place to move towards it. Tools and exercises are used in and between sessions to help gain clarity, get you ‘unstuck’ and to help build the skills and behaviours you need to achieve your desired outcome.

How does coaching differ from things like counseling or mentoring?

Counseling concentrates on healing the past, while Coaching focuses on where you are now and where you want to be. Mentoring is a specific one on one relationship with a professional who has succeeded in your chosen field and who can give you specific feedback and direction based on their experience. Coaching is a fresh perspective that brings the focus back to you and what you want to achieve. Coaches work with you to create belief systems, skills, behaviours and habits that support positive change which can impact all areas of your life.

Is it really any different to talking to a friend or colleague?

Friends and colleagues tend to have a vested interest in the outcome of your situation, so you’re not guaranteed to get the objective and constructive support you need. As your coach, my agenda is your agenda. You can rest assured that our coaching partnership is confidential, honest and focused on helping you to access the best version of your life.

What kinds of results could I expect to get?

I’ll be honest, if you’re not getting results then coaching is simply a lovely and expensive chat. When you’re getting results (which you will with me), coaching is exciting, rewarding and a no-brainer investment. I’m pretty candid, so on our first call, even before coaching has begun, we’ll discuss the results you’re looking for and what will be required to get there. Coaching is an incredibly effective and flexible tool, so if you’re committed to putting in the effort and time required, then the results you’re looking for will are attainable. Some of my clients have gone from stressed out employee to freelancing with twice the income in 4 sessions, from discontented contractor to the dream job in 3 sessions. In each and every session I will be asking you what you want to leave with and I’ll make sure you get it.

How much does it cost?

The investment you make will depend on your personal situation; where you are now, what you need to achieve and how it takes to effect that change. Every situation is different, so packages are tailored to suit your needs. Don’t worry, I don’t like surprises either, so the cost will be discussed in our first phone call. Once I’ve heard more about your unique situation, I’ll be able to give you a fee and a course structure. Coaching with the right coach is an investment in yourself and your future. I’m committed to helping you reach your goals and designing a life that brings you the most happiness and satisfaction. Take a minute to think about 5 things you would like to achieve in the next three to 12 months. Have you already been working on achieving them? What would it be worth to you to work with someone who can help you speed up your achievement in a way that is exciting and rewarding? Is it worth finding out? Call me and we can talk through a plan to suit you.
